A
meio caminho da tour pelas primeiras BDs, visito o 3º trabalho,
“Navegador,”
a banda desenhada mais longa que fiz e também a primeira colorida. A
convite de Pedro Saavedra, editor da revista cultural Gerador,
foi-me colocado o desafio para contribuir para o #6, sob o tema
Património Português. Dado este pouco me apelar, pensei em
misturá-lo com assuntos que me entusiasmam e, assim, tentei criar
algo que explorasse abordagens menos vistas; por exemplo, e se
cruzasse Descobrimentos com Creepy Pastas? Entre pesadelos e visões
negras, procurei mostrar uma ambiência fantasmagórica, onde uma
fantasma assola o navio e acaba por ter um papel importante no
destino da tripulação.
Desta
vez, o trabalho desafiou-me de formas diferentes face às anteriores
BDs. A escrita exigia uma atenção cuidada, tendo a proposta de ser
aceite pelo editor, e o prazo curto para a produção forçou-me a
desenhar em A4 e a colorir digitalmente – algo que nunca tinha
feito antes. Tal como nas outras BDs, foi uma situação de ir
aprendendo enquanto fazia!
Embora
a coloração digital se tenha tornado acessível depois de me
ambientar à técnica, a escrita, por sua vez, foi complicada. A
história inicial que escrevi tomou controlo do processo e acabei por
escrever uma narrativa que só podia caber em 60 páginas, não 6...!
Essa história, que guardei, tornou-se a base de um dos projectos que
estou actualmente a desenvolver. Decidi então escrever uma espécie
de prequela para a história maior, a qual acabou por ser a BD
publicada.
Halfway
through the tour of my first short comics I visit the 3rd work,
“Navegador,” the longest story I did and also the first one in
color. Invitated by Pedro Saavedra, publisher of the cultural
magazine Gerador/Generator, I was challenged to contribute to #6,
under the theme Portuguese Heritage. Given this held little appeal to
me, I thought about mixing it with subjects that thrilled me and,
thus, I tried to create something that explored rarer approaches; for
example, what if I crossed The Discoveries with Creepy Pastas?
Between nightmares and dark visions, I tried to show a ghostly
ambience, where a spirit ravages the ship and ends up playing an
important role in the crew's destiny.
This time, the work challenged me in different ways compared to previous comics. The writing required careful attention, given the publisher had to accept my proposal, and the short deadline for production forced me to draw in a standard sheet and color it digitally – something I hadn't done before. As with other comics, it was a situation that demanded I learn while doing it!
Although digital coloring became accessible after getting used to the technique, the writing, in turn, was complicated. The initial story I wrote took control of the process and I ended up penning a narrative that could only fit in 60 pages, not 6...! That story, which I kept, became the basis for one of the projects that I am currently developing. I then decided to write a sort of prequel to that bigger story, which ended up being the published comic.

Na altura, dois dos principais críticos de BD da comunidade portuguesa - Geraldes Lino e José de Matos-Cruz - fizeram destaque ao trabalho, que foi bem recebido.
