No
dia 25 de Abril, será lançado o álbum CoBrA: Operação Goa, pela Ala dos Livros, escrito por Marco Calhorda e
desenhado por Daniel Maia, e com sobrecapa colorida por mim.
Trata-se de uma edição de luxo, com sobrecapa brilhante de
ilustração envolvente e capa texturada, de 72p a preto/branco. O
título marca a estreia editorial dos autores em publicações
nacionais no mercado livreiro regular de circuito amplo, assim como a
minha, embora seja a 7ª capa que assino.
Este
foi um desafio excepcional. Apesar de já ter colorido trabalhos do
Daniel anteriormente, o rigor que esta capa exigiu levou-me a
realizar diferentes técnicas de pintura digital. Tenho imenso
orgulho no resultado final e mal posso esperar para mostrar a cor
realizada para o print exclusivo que será oferecido pela editora, em
breve!

Os
ventos da descolonização começam a soprar. Portugal está presente
na India há mais de 450 anos, mas tem uma dificuldade crescente em
defender o território situado a mais de 8 mil quilómetros de
distância da Metrópole. Por um lado, os recursos materiais e
humanos são escassos; por outro o governo português, sob a
orgulhosa administração Salazarista, recusa adaptar-se aos novos
tempos.
CoBrA: Operação Goa
é uma obra de ficção que ressalva a ambição e redenção
humanas. Enquadrada no contexto histórico da invasão de Goa, a
narrativa centra-se na intervenção do CoBrA, a agência secreta
liderada pelo controverso Jorge Jardim, para forçar a abertura de
canais de comunicação entre os vários intervenientes desta
história, na coação dos poderes políticos, incluindo os de
Portugal, a abandonarem considerações imediatistas e oportunistas
e, por fim, no engendrar do repatriamento dos prisioneiros
Portugueses detidos Goa.
On
April 25th, the graphic novel CoBrA: Operação Goa,
by Ala dos Livros, will be released, written by Marco Calhorda
and drawn by Daniel Maia, and with a colored dust jacket by
me. This is a deluxe edition, with a glossy dust jacket and
wrap-around illustration and a textured cover, with 72p in
black/white. The book marks the editorial debut of the authors in
portuguese publications for the regular book market with wide
distribution, as is for me, although this is my 7th cover.
This
was an exceptional challenge. Despite having previously colored
Daniel's works, the rigor that this cover required led me to perform
different digital painting techniques. I'm very proud of the final
result and can't wait to show the color made for the exclusive print
that will soon be offered by the publisher!

The
winds of decolonization begin to blow. Portugal has been present in
India for over 450 years, but has found it increasingly difficult to
defend the territory located more than 5 thousand miles away from the
metropolis. On the one hand, material and human resources are scarce;
on the other hand, the Portuguese government, under the proud
Salazarist administration, refuses to adapt to the new times.
CoBrA:
Operação Goa is a work of fiction that emphasizes human
ambition and redemption. Framed in the historical context of the
invasion of Goa, the narrative focuses on the intervention of CoBrA,
the secret agency led by the controversial Jorge Jardim, to force the
opening of channels of communication between the various actors in
this history, in the coercion of political powers, including those of
Portugal, to abandon immediate and opportunistic considerations and,
finally, in the engendering the repatriation of Portuguese prisoners
held in Goa.
