2018: Revisão / Review

Bom Ano Novo! Tal como fiz no ano passado, retomo as publicações no blogue com uma recapitulação dos pontos-altos de 2018.

Se, por um lado, trabalhos anteriores ressurgiram em força nas suas derradeiras moradas, nos projectos colectivos Almanaque e 1º ciclo da série Aurora Boreal, por outro lado foi um ano de afirmação numa vertente que sempre quis explorar: a formação. Testada no final de 2017, numa masterclass conjunta sobre BD e cor digital, comecei o ano com a coordenação do 2º módulo do Curso de BD no Museu Bordalo Pinheiro, a convite do professor Penim Loureiro, a que se seguiu o convite para uma formação mais extensa na cidade-natal, Montijo, onde já estava a realizar aulas de Introdução ao Desenho na Universidade Sénior. A adesão ao Iniciação à Arte Sequencial foi tanta que a câmara municipal quis que fizesse um 2º curso para abranger todos os trinta inscritos.

A experiência foi tão exaustiva quanto formidável e, no final, alguns bravos arriscaram criar as primeiras BDs, que o município publicará em breve em antologia. Não suficiente, tive ainda o prazer de ver alguns destes participar nos 29º Prémios Nacionais de BD, no Concurso de Banda Desenhada, onde a aluna Patrícia Costa foi premiada com a consagração no Escalão A+, sendo os restantes colegas seleccionados como finalistas e expostos no festival.

Ainda, na vertente da arte gráfica, à falta da publicação do livro infantil que ilustrei em 2017, concluí e lancei o meu baralho de cartas autoral, Gatos Baralhados, que foi um agradável sucesso comercial; o suficiente para me ter lançado na criação de um baralho complementar, sobre cães.

Relativamente a eventos, não só pude visitar o FIBDB com os alunos do 1º curso, como fui convidada a integrar o Artists' Alley do V CCPT, onde fui surpreendentemente bem recebida para quem não tem percurso nestes meandros e fez contra-programação (com trabalhos mais plásticos/ilustrativos). A onda continuou com exposição e colóquio no 1º Barreiro IlustraBD, onde lancei o Gatos Baralhados e se retomou a edição de Aurora Boreal e O Princípio Infinito, que foi continuada no 29º Amadora BD, onde estive a dar autógrafos e também apresentei Almanaque.

Na recta final do ano, participei ainda, pela primeira vez, no Tertúlia BD de Lisboa, onde pude apresentar a Aurora Boreal #4 e o fanzine Cadavres para Iniciantes #1, derivado de uma BD colectiva pelos alunos do Montijo.

Ainda, é de destacar que a revista O Infante Portugal em Universos Reunidos, por José de Matos-Cruz (texto) e Daniel Maia (arte), onde colaborei como desenhadora convidada, venceu o prémio de  Melhor Obra Curta no XVI Troféus Central Comics, tendo quase sido distinguida também como Melhor Publicação Independente.

Happy New Year! As I did last year, I'm resuming blog posts with a recap of 2018's highlights.
If, on the one hand, previous works have resurfaced in force in their final addresses, namely in the collective projects Almanaque/Almanac and the 1st cycle of the series Aurora Boreal, on the other hand it was a year of affirmation in a venue that I've always wanted to explore: formations. Tested at the end of 2017, in a joint masterclass about comics and digital color, I started the year with the coordination of the 2nd module of the Bordalo Pinheiro Museum's Comics Course, at the invitation of Professor Penim Loureiro, followed by the invitation for an extensive course in my hometown of Montijo, where I was already teaching Introduction to Drawing at the Senior University. The response to the Initiation to Sequential Art was so great that the city asked me to coordinate a 2nd course, so as to cover all thirty enrolled.
The experience was as exhaustive as it was formidable and, in the end, a few brave ones risked creating the first comic story, which the municipality will soon publish in an anthology. Not sufficing, I was also pleased to see some of them participating in the 29th PNBD/National Comics Awards, in the Comics Competition, where the student Patrícia Costa won the single award in the A+ competition, with the other colleagues also selected as finalists and exhibited at the festival.
In the ​​graphic arts field, in the absence of the publication of the children's book that I illustrated in 2017, I completed and released my illustrated deck of cards, Gatos Baralhados/Shuffled Cats, which was a pleasant commercial success; enough to get me started on creating a complementary deck, focused on dogs.
Regarding comics' events, not only did I visit the FIBDB with the 1st course students, but was invited to join the V CCPT's Artists Alley, where I was surprisingly well received for someone new to such events and that did counter-programming (showcasing more fine arts/illustrative artwork). The wave continued with an exhibit and discussion panel in the 1st Barreiro IlustraBD, where I launched the Shuffled Cats and resumed the edition of Aurora Boreal and The Infinite Beginning, which was continued in the 29th Amadora BD, where I attended in order to sign autographs and also presented Almanac.
In the final stretch of the year, I also participated, for the first time, in Lisbon's Comics Gathering, where I presented Aurora Boreal #4 and the fanzine Cadavres for Innitiatiors #1, derived from a collective comics' experiment by Montijo's students.

Furthermore, I should also spotlight that the comic book The Infante Portugal in Gathered Universes, by José de Matos-Cruz (script) and Daniel Maia (art), where I collaborated as guest artist, won the Best Short Story award in the Central Comics Trophies, and was nearly also distinguished as Best Independent Publication.
