Commissions XIV / Comissões XIV - Fernando Pessoa

Em 2012, participei pela primeira vez na ilustração de um livro, a convite de José de Matos-Cruz, no último volume da trilogia O Infante Portugal. Além de ter sido desafiada a criar a etérea personagem Aurora Boreal, protagonista da sua saga seguinte, colaborei com Daniel Maia na ilustração de algumas capas de capítulo com contexto multidimensional, desenhando ele as porções reais e eu as fantasmagóricas. Assim nasceu esta imagem com Álvaro Pessoa, o pastiche de Fernando Pessoa naquele universo ficcional, cujos heterónimos etéreos eu ilustrei, além de assumir a própria estrutura da composição.
Volvida uma década, eu e o Daniel fomos convidados a recriar esta imagem para formato A3. Foi um redesenhar algo tão antigo, tendo de ser fiel à ilustração original mas querendo fazer um melhor trabalho desta vez. Obrigada pelo desafio!

In 2012, I participated for the first time in a book’s illustration, at the invitation of José de Matos-Cruz, in the final volume of The Infante Portugal trilogy. In addition to being challenged to create the ethereal character Aurora Boreal, protagonist of his next prose saga, I collaborated with Daniel Maia in illustrating a few chapter covers with a multidimensional context, with him drawing the real-world parts and I the phantasmagorical ones. That's how this image featuring Álvaro Pessoa came about, Fernando Pessoa's pastiche in that fictional universe, whose ethereal heteronyms I illustrated here, in addition to also creating the composition’s structure.

A decade later, Daniel and I were invited to recreate this image in large format. It took a redrawing of something old, having to be faithful to the original illustration but wanting to do a better job this time. Thanks for the challenge!
