XXI Troféus Central Comics – Finalista / Finalist

Em jeito de conclusão de actividade, restava ao colectivo Tágide (2019-2023) a passagem pelo último prémio de mérito da banda desenhada portuguesa alusivo ao ano editorial transacto – o XXI Troféus Central Comics – o qual realizou recentemente a fase de pré-eliminatória e recebe votos finais nos próximos dez dias, até 3af, 21/5.
No Troféus Central Comics, são os leitores e profissionais do sector quem determina, com os seus votos online e de acordo com as suas preferências, as obras finalistas e os eventuais vencedores, que este ano vão ser relevados no 2º MaiaBD, no Domingo, 26/5.

Pela 4a vez, desde 2020, o fanzine Outras Bandas #9 é finalista na categoria Melhor Publicação Independente, e reúne ainda outras três nomeações para Melhor Obra Curta; nomeadamente, para “A Câmara”, de Yves Darbos, “Longa Vida”, de Daniel Maia, e “Luar Fatal”, de Henrique Gandum.
Ao todo, estas indicações perfazem dezasseis nomeações para Tágide (incluindo duas vitórias) em prémios nacionais.

Adicionalmente, o webcomic com Daniel Maia, para FC Porto, FCP-BD: 2022/2023, foi nomeado na nova categoria Melhor Webcomic.

As its ultimate activity, the Tágide collective (2019-2023) had left one final passage in the last merit award for Portuguese comics alluding to the previous editorial year – the XXI Central Comics Trophies –, which recently held the elimination round and gathers its final votes over the next ten days, until Tuesday, May 21th.
At Central Comics Trophies, it is the readers and the field professionals who determine, with their online votes and according to their preferences, the finalist and eventual winners, which this year will be presented at the 2nd MaiaBD comics festival, on Sunday, May 26th.

For the 4th time since 2020, the fanzine Outras Bandas #9 is a finalist in Best Independent Publication, and also has three other nominations for Best Short Work; namely, for “Fatal Moonlight”, by Henrique Gandum, “Long Life”, by Daniel Maia, and “The Camera”, by Yves Darbos.
In total, these selections make up sixteen nominations for Tágide (including two victories) in portuguese awards.

Adicionally, my webcomic with Daniel Maia, for FC Porto, FCP-BD: 2022/2023, was nominated for the brand new category Best Webcomic.

Abril, Cravos Mil – Ilustração de capa / Cover illustration

Hoje partilho a minha ilustração dupla de capa/contracapa, criada para a antologia Abril, Cravos Mil – Histórias de Liberdade, apresentada há duas semanas e integrada nas comemorações dos 50 Anos do 25 de Abril de 1974, pela Câmara Municipal de Montijo. A par das ilustrações, fiz o grafismo do “miolo” do livro e a paginação.

O que é uma revolução sem os seus líderes? Nesta imagem, tal como as BDs prestaram tributo aos ideais de Abril, quis homenagear alguns dos protagonistas da Revolução dos Cravos; nomeadamente, o capitão Salgueiro Maia, o militante Francisco Sousa Tavares e Celeste Caeiro, a “Celeste dos Cravos,” que precipitou o símbolo desta rebelião, aqui também a representar as mulheres que lutaram pelo 25 de Abril.
O trabalho foi feito em papel de aguarela, finalizado com caneta de gel e colorido com técnica mista.

Today I share my wrap-around cover/backcover illustration, created for April, Carnation Showers – Stories of Freedom anthology, presented two weeks ago and part of the 50th anniversary of April 25th 1974 celebrations, by Montijo City. Along with these illustrations, I also created the book design for the edition.

What is a revolution without its leaders? In this image, just as the short comics paid tribute to April’s ideals, I wanted to pay homage to a few of the Carnation Revolution protagonists; namely, captain Salgueiro Maia, the militant Francisco Sousa Tavares and Celeste Caeiro, “ Carnations Celeste,” who precipitated the symbol of this rebellion, here also representing all the women who fought for April 25th.
The work was done on watercolor paper, finished with a gel pen and colored with mixed media.

Lançada no final de Abril, a antologia de BD Abril, Cravos Mil - Histórias de Liberdade, foi apresentada no Cinema-Teatro Joaquim d’Almeida, com a presença do Presidente da Câmara Eng. Nuno Canta, além dos autores do grupo TágIIde, mais o autor Daniel Maia e eu própria.
A ocasião contou com boa quantidade de audiência e teve uma sessão de autógrafos. Obrigada pelo apoio!

Released at the end of April, the comics anthology Abril, Cravos Mil – Histórias de Liberdade / April, Carnation Showers – Stories of Freedom, was presented at the Joaquim d'Almeida Movie-Theater, with the presence of the Mayor Eng. Nuno Canta, in addition to the TágIIde group authors, plus author Daniel Maia and myself.
The occasion was well attended and there was an autograph session. Thanks for the support!
