BD Curta / Short Comic: #2 – Ceifeira (2015)

Continuando a rever as minhas BDs iniciais, hoje destaco o 2º trabalho, uma colaboração na iniciativa coordenada pelo autor/editor Daniel Maia, Cadavre Exquisito! Começada em 2008 e concluída em 2015, o projecto tentou reunir o maior número de sempre de autores numa BD colectiva, feita em prancha autoconclusiva e em sistema cadavre exquis – o processo de criação desenvolvido pelos pintores Surrealistas, onde cada novo artista elabora sob o trabalho anterior, realizando assim uma improvisação gráfica livre de contextos óbvios. E nesse sentido foi bem-sucedido, tendo propiciado 52 pranchas de banda desenhada por 56 criadores!

De início hesitei, mas assumi a penúltima página (#51). Todavia, excedi o limite do desafio e acabei por criar uma mini história na prancha singular. Embora a narrativa não possa ser separada por completo da BD colectiva, é uma sequência que pode ser lida isoladamente e, posteriormente, para fazer justiça ao conto que imaginei, reconfigurei a prancha para funcionar como página dupla, para que os desenhos a grafite detalhados e as expressões das personagens pudessem ser melhor apreciados.

Neste trabalho, também quis experimentar um processo diferente e desenhei as vinhetas em separado, sem limite de espaço, para montá-las depois digitalmente. Com essa liberdade, cada vinheta tomou a proporção duma ilustração, nas quais contei a vida de uma personagem vilã no contexto da BD colectiva mas à qual conferi a dimensão de mulher traída, em busca de vingança.

Continuing to review my initial comics, today I highlight the 2nd work, a collaboration in an initiative coordinated by author/editor Daniel Maia, Cadavre Exquisito! Started in 2008 and completed in 2015, the project tried to bring together the biggest number of portuguese authors to ever contribute to a comic, with each creating in a self-contained page in cadavre exquis (or exquisite corpse) system – the artistic process developed by Surrealist painters, where each new artist elaborates under the previous work, thus performing a graphic improvisation free of obvious contexts. And in that sense it succeded, having produced 52 comic pages by 56 creators!

At first I hesitated, but took on the penultimate page (#51). However, I exceeded the challenge limit and ended up creating a mini story on the one page. Although the narrative cannot be completely separated from the collective comic, it is a sequence that can be read by itself. And later on, to do justice to the story I had imagined, I reconfigured the page to function as a double, so that the detailed drawings and the characters' expressions could be better appreciated.

For this work I also wanted to try a different approach and drew the panels separately, with no space limitation, and assembled them digitally afterwards. With that freedom, each vignette took on the proportions of an illustration, in which I told the life of a villainous character in the context of comic, but whom I depicted as a betrayed woman in search of revenge.
